What is Universal Preschool Colorado?
With the passage of HB22-1295 Department Early Childhood And Universal Preschool Program, beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, families in Colorado can receive up to 15 hours per week of free, voluntary preschool for 4-year-olds through the Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado program. 3-year-olds with qualifying factors are eligible for 10 free hours per week.
In Academy District 20 (ASD20), students who will be four years old by October 1 of the current school year will receive 15 hours of preschool for free. Three-year-olds that meet specific eligibility factors may also qualify for 10 hours of free preschool.
Preschool Eligibility
All four-year-olds living in Colorado will be eligible for up to 15 hours of preschool.
Four-year-olds with any one of the following qualifying factors will be eligible for an additional 15 hours of preschool at no cost to you (foster care, homelessness, dual language learner, Individualized Education Plan, income less than 270% of Federal Poverty Guidelines).
Three-year-olds with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will be eligible for 10 hours of preschool at no cost to you.
Children with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will have services provided in a district preschool program.
ASD20 provides Colorado Universal Preschool with 15 hours of preschool weekly in alignment with the state program.
