How We Work

Academy District 20 believes an important first step in supporting students and families who are experiencing hardship is to provide access to resources and information families may need.

Our Community Resource Directory can help you find the services you need.

Family Resource Center Services

Focusing first on students with the highest needs helps prevent future challenges for the student.  The Family Resource Center services are tailored for students and families with these needs.  Completing our questionnaire allows us to process and prioritize resources to ensure we are serving students with the most pressing needs first.

Resources may include, but are not limited to:

  • housing and food insecurity

  • medical and mental health referrals

  • seasonally appropriate clothing

  • toiletries

  • backpacks and school supplies

Ways to Get Involved

Donations

We accept:

  • new or gently used clothing, non-perishable

  • unexpired food items

  • brand new, unopened toiletries

  • store gift cards (ex. Wal-Mart, King Soopers, Safeway, Target, Big 5 Sporting Goods)

For our current donation needs and additional details, see our Current Needs announcement.

Donations are accepted on:

  • Mondays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Look for the sign and place your donations in the bins in front of the Family Resource Center.  Appointments can be scheduled if the above times do not work for you.  Please call ahead if you have a large donation to drop off. We are happy to provide a receipt for donations.

Donation Drives

If you are interested in running a drive to collect items for the Family Resource Center, please reach out to Darolyn Stewart to discuss the details so your drive can best meet the needs of the Family Resource Center.  We welcome your help collecting clothing, food, toiletries, and school supplies. For additional details on donation drives, see our Donations Drives page.

If you are interested in conducting a donation drive, please fill out our online Donation Drive form to get started.

Volunteering

If you are interested in volunteering at the Family Resource Center, please contact Darolyn Stewart.  If you have a group or club that would like to support the Family Resource Center, please check our Donations Drives page.

Take and Go Laundry

Our Take and Go Laundry program for high schoolers provides an opportunity for students to earn service hours by taking home a bag of donated clothing to wash, dry and fold.  Our expectation is that students complete this task independently. Students should complete the Take and Go Laundry Student Volunteer Sign Up form.

Each bag of laundry equates to 1 service hour.  There is a two-bag limit per semester per student.   Availability is based on donations received.  Bags are distributed first come, first serve.   Students are welcome to call in advance to check the availability of bags.

Pickup and Dropoff Hours (students must be present to receive the hours):

  • Mondays and Thursdays, 3 – 4 p.m.

  •  Appointments can be scheduled if these times do not work for you.
