In 2023, the names of three inductees were permanently etched into the Hall of Excellence, cementing their impact on Academy District 20 (D20).

Kay Esmiol
Kay Esmiol taught in D20 for 26 years and made a profound impact on the students and families of Foothills Elementary and Eagleview Middle School. She is a nationally recognized middle school Humanities Teacher, Team Teacher of the West, and has written and produced six plays and an opera. Esmiol is a fierce advocate for public education, and human rights, and is beloved by her students.
Bob Cohn
Bob Cohn served as D20 General Counsel for nearly 15 years and is considered a pillar of this district. His experience and expertise in education law, labor relations, and discrimination law guided D20 through good and challenging times. He valued others and ensured all were treated with respect.
Kathie Crume
Kathie Crume’s name is synonymous with the D20 Human Resources (HR) department. In fact, she established several of the processes and policies still in use today. Kathie served the district from 1974-2010, starting as a World Languages teacher and working her way up to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. Her desire to foster a culture of staff accountability and receptivity to feedback is a tenant of our district.
In addition to three inductees, three new honorary members were added to the Hall of Excellence. When the event was first created, former Superintendent Dr. Mark Hatchell decided each Superintendent and Board of Education member would become honorary members of the Hall of Excellence for their countless hours of leading and supporting the district.
