As more than 26,000 students file in Academy District 20 hallways this school year, they’ll be welcomed with more than 200 new faces joining the district’s team of talented educators.

Before reorganizing their classrooms and joining their teams, new staff members attend D20’s annual “New Licensed Staff Orientation” providing an inside look at the district’s culture, how to use our technology, what to expect in the classroom, and more.

When asked how they will exemplify D20’s mission, “We educate and inspire students to thrive,” new teachers exploded with answers.

Rachelle Talbot, a first-grade teacher at Legacy Peak Elementary School said, “I want to build strong relationships with each child and creative a positive and fun learning environment.”

First-year fourth-grade teacher at Encompass Heights Elementary School, Taylor Sibley said, “I will ask my students to always strive for the best, but if there is bump in the road just to get right back up and keep going!

Other educators were anxious to start interacting with students. New music teacher at Chinook Trail Middle School, Jeffi Erickson, said, “I want to show my students just how passionate I am about music. I hope this inspires them & gives them the confidence they need to join choir again in high school!

Fellow music teacher, Alex Ortega from Discovery Canyon Campus Middle School said, “I hope to keep my students engaged and motivated with energy and positive classroom management, while also having fun and playing good music.”

As the first day of school approaches, we’re wishing all new licensed staff members a joyful start to the school year!
